The Leonardo is an open source precise microcontroller board based on the ATmega32U4 SMD chip. The Raspberry Pi Foundation has released a new version of its flagship model, the Raspberry Pi 4 Model B with 8 GB Ram. In addition to the models that come with 2GB and 4GB of RAM, there’s a new 8GB RAM model.

As always, you get a single-board computer that is the size of a deck of cards. It has an ARM-based CPU, many ports, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and a big community of computer enthusiasts. You’ll be able to run applications that require more RAM, whether you use the Raspberry Pi to run a server or as a desktop computer.

All other hardware is the same as before except the RAM variation in this new Launch.

What else has changed?

To supply the slightly higher peak currents required by the new memory package, they have shuffled the power supply components on the board, removing a switch-mode power supply from the right-hand side of the board next to the USB 2.0 sockets and adding a new switcher next to the USB-C power connector. This is ADS1115 16-Bit ADC – 4 Channel with Programmable Gain Amplifier. For micro-controllers without an analog-to-digital converter or when you want a higher-precision ADC, the ADS1115 provides 16-bit precision at 860 samples/second over I2C. The chip can be configured as 4 single-end input channels or two differential channels. As a nice bonus, it even includes a programmable gain amplifier, up to x16, to help boost up smaller single/differential signals to the full range. We like this ADC because it can run from 2V to 5V power/logic, can measure a large range of signals and it’s super easy to use. It is a great general purpose 16-bit converter.
The chip’s fairly small so it comes on a breakout board with ferrites to keep the AVDD and AGND quiet. Interfacing is done via I2C. The address can be changed to one of four options (see the datasheet table 5) so you can have up to 4 ADS1115’s connect on a single 2-wire I2C bus for 16 single end inputs.
